Mum And baby Classes on the powys and shropshire border

Postnatal exercise classes

Move, reconnect & feel stronger – with baby welcome too.

Small, supportive postnatal exercise classes designed to help you return to movement at your own pace, with options from the early postnatal period through to building strength and confidence again.

It’s common to feel weaker or different in your body after having a baby. Your body has been through pregnancy and birth, your hormones are changing, and then suddenly you’re spending your days lifting, carrying, feeding and getting up and down from the floor.

These classes are designed to rebuild strength and mobility for real mum life, helping your body feel stronger, less achy and more capable as your baby grows.

Thursdays  |  Block Bookings in Term Time  |  Llanyblodwel Village Hall

Choose your class

Find the right starting point for you

You don’t have to know exactly where you should be after having a baby. Both classes are designed with postnatal recovery in mind — the difference is simply how much you’re ready to do.

More than just a class

Come for the movement, stay for the company.

The fitness

Each session is designed to help you move with confidence, rebuild strength and feel good in your body – with options to suit different stages of postnatal recovery.

You can work at your own pace, take breaks when you need to and adapt things around you and your baby.

The social

There’s a 30-minute overlap between the two classes, giving you time to stay for a tea, coffee and a chat with other mums.

Because getting out of the house, meeting people and having a conversation with another adult can sometimes be just as valuable as the workout.

Refreshments included.

Babies and toddlers welcome

Baby having other ideas? That’s fine.

These classes are designed for babies and toddlers to be in the room.

Baby needs feeding? Feed them.
Nappy explosion? We’ve all been there.
Baby wants a cuddle? Pick them up.
You need to miss half the exercises? That’s okay too.

You’re there to look after yourself and your baby. There is no expectation that either of you behaves perfectly for 45 minutes!

You remain responsible for your child throughout the session, but I’ll make it as easy as possible for you to dip in and out of the class as you need to.

Q&A

The FAQs

You don’t necessarily need to start with Recovery & Reconnect. That said, don’t underestimate the value of the foundations. Breathing, pelvic floor, core connection and activation work can be beneficial even if you feel ready for more. Pregnancy and birth can affect pelvic floor and abdominal function, and investing some time in these areas can support your return to exercise now and your pelvic health longer term.

Recovery & Reconnect is best if you’re earlier in your postnatal recovery, want to take things gently, or would benefit from focusing on breathing, pelvic floor, core connection, mobility and gradually rebuilding confidence in movement.

Strength & Mobility offers more of a workout, with progressive strength exercises alongside core and mobility work. You may have already completed a block of Recovery & Reconnect, or you might simply have recovered well, be coping comfortably with physical activity and feel ready for something more challenging. Everything can still be adapted to suit you.

There’s no perfect point at which you should move from one to the other — everyone’s pregnancy, birth, recovery and previous exercise experience is different. If you’re unsure, just get in touch and I can help you decide.

Not necessarily. New evidence-based postpartum guidelines recognise that returning to physical activity doesn’t need to begin at an arbitrary six-week point.

When and how you return should be individual to you, taking into account your pregnancy, birth, recovery, symptoms and previous activity levels.

Recovery & Reconnect has been designed with this in mind. It isn’t about jumping straight back into a traditional workout – we’ll focus on things such as breathing, pelvic floor, gentle core connection, mobility and gradually reconnecting with movement.

Everyone will complete a postnatal screening questionnaire before attending. If anything suggests that exercise may need further consideration, I’ll recommend speaking to an appropriate healthcare professional before progressing.

Based on: the 2025 Canadian Guideline for Physical Activity, Sedentary Behaviour and Sleep Throughout the First Year Postpartum, published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.

There isn’t one perfect timeline for returning to exercise after birth. How and when you start depends on your pregnancy, birth, recovery, previous activity levels and how you’re feeling now.

Before joining, you’ll complete a postnatal screening questionnaire so I can understand your individual circumstances.

Some symptoms may mean we need to adapt what you’re doing or that I’ll recommend speaking to your GP, midwife or pelvic health physiotherapist before progressing.

These can include:

  • Pain that is new, significant or worsening with activity
  • Vaginal bleeding that is new, increasing or not related to your period
  • Problems with wound or C-section healing
  • Pelvic heaviness, pressure or a dragging sensation
  • Urinary or bowel leakage
  • Significant abdominal-wall or pelvic-floor concerns
  • Dizziness, fainting or unusual breathlessness
  • Calf pain or swelling
  • Feeling generally unwell or experiencing symptoms that concern you

Importantly, having some pelvic-floor symptoms, abdominal-wall concerns or musculoskeletal aches doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t move at all. Current postpartum guidelines identify these as areas where additional screening, support, treatment or exercise modification may be appropriate.

You’re still very welcome, but your individual recovery comes first. Following a C-section, gentle movement such as walking, breathing and pelvic floor work can usually begin before a return to more traditional exercise. Progress should be gradual and guided by your recovery and symptoms.

Recovery & Reconnect may be suitable before six weeks if your recovery is progressing well. As a rough guide, you should be comfortable moving around and getting up and down, your incision should be healing well, and gentle activity shouldn’t increase pain, cause pulling around your incision or noticeably increase any postpartum bleeding.

During class, I’ll give you individual adaptations and may recommend that you reduce or avoid particular exercises. If your symptoms worsen during or following activity or suggest that you need further assessment before progressing, I’ll recommend speaking to an appropriate healthcare professional.

There’s also absolutely no rush. You might choose to join early and do a smaller amount, or wait until you feel able to participate more fully – both are completely fine.

Strength & Mobility would usually be a later step following a C-section or complicated birth, typically from around six weeks onwards and sometimes longer depending on your recovery, symptoms and any advice you’ve received from your healthcare team.

If a medical issue means you’re no longer able to attend a block you’ve booked, I’ll refund the remaining sessions.

Your place is reserved for the full block, so missed sessions can’t normally be refunded, credited or transferred.

The exception is if a medical issue relating to your postnatal recovery means you’re unable to continue attending. Please contact me and I’ll refund any remaining sessions in your block.

Potentially, if there’s a space available. The classes are designed to progress over the block, so starting from the beginning is ideal, but please get in touch and I can let you know what’s possible.

Yes. Places are limited and must be booked in advance.

Classes run in blocks. See the booking page for upcoming dates and availability.

Classes are held at Llanyblodwel Village Hall on selected Thursdays during term time.

Recovery & Reconnect: 9:45–10:30am
Strength & Mobility: 11:00–11:45am

There’s a 30-minute overlap between the classes for tea, coffee, something to eat and a chat.

Yes! Tea, coffee and refreshments are included. The overlap between classes is deliberately there because sometimes the coffee and adult conversation are just as important as the workout.

There’s absolutely no pressure to stay or arrive early – it’s simply an option. If baby is sleeping, you don’t need to rush off, and if getting out of the house has miraculously gone to plan that morning, you’re very welcome to arrive early.

I will be at the hall from 9:30am-12pm.

Full disclosure: I’m a personal trainer, not a barista – please manage your coffee expectations accordingly.
